And Now For Something Completely Different!

And Now For Something Completely Different!

It’s been awhile since we have had something fun on the blog and I found something really funny to share with you but first . . .

One of my fantastic students did something that I thought was really cool and I wanted to share it with you. As you may or may not know, at the end of every day, I play Rock, Paper, Scissors with my students. Unbeknown to me, Spencer, one of my totally cool and awesome students, has been graphing the results of our competitions! He brought it in to show me and I think it is one of the coolest things I have seen. How cool to see Math applied to real life things.  He even sorted by what was used each time by each of us. It was just perfect and I wanted to share his graph with you. I took the photo awhile ago but here it is. I’m probably winning by a lot now since the photo was taken . . .:) I think it is really amazing!

DSCI0099-1

I am in need of 12 glass jars for Science. If anyone would be willing to lend us some glass jars for about a week, that would be great. You will get them back at the end of the lesson (unbroken, of course!).

I found this video yesterday and I thought it was one of the funniest videos that I have seen in awhile. So here it is. Enjoy and we’ll see you tomorrow!

New Simon’s Cat

New Simon’s Cat

Here, on my blog, I like to highlight funny videos that tickle my funny bone. One of my favorites is the Simon’s Cat series. Today the author unleashed a new one.

Oh No . . . We’re Not Done Yet!!!

Oh No . . . We’re Not Done Yet!!!

Well, the first day of summer holidays are here for me. I know the rest of you have all been enjoying the days of no school for about a week now but this is the first day for me! And how did I celebrate, you ask? Well, I woke up early with my children. However, I don’t mind. They are fun to be with and Liam has been calming down and is not quite as fussy as he has been since he was born which is nice.

I just wanted to say though; we’re not done! Though the school year is over, the blog is still yours to use. This will always be your blog to visit, to use the resources you have come to enjoy, and to say hi! Just because you are moving on to a new class and grade, this will always be your spot. Come and visit often, kick back your feet and stay for awhile! You know you want to! 🙂

Just to reward you for coming back to see us, I have a couple of soccer related videos for you and especially for Mr. Morris, who enjoys a good game of soccer! The first one is a silly one about those loud horns they have been using at the World cup called vuvuzellas. They are very loud and annoying. If you have watched any of the soccer games on tv or the computer, you would have heard them. They sound like very angry hornets!

Here is another video explaining the offside rule in soccer.

Surf City, Chilliwack!!

Surf City, Chilliwack!!

summer-beach-clothesTomorrow is Beach Fun day at school! Bring your cool shades, your towel, some sunscreen and beach clothes for our fun day tomorrow. We’ll have lots of fun going from class to class doing fun summery things and, oh yeah, hoping that the weather does not bring thunderstorms our way. I will be wearing my coolest summertime clothes and maybe a rubber duckie to swim with!

If it is really cold and miserable, please remember to dress for the weather. If it is looking bad tomorrow, you can still wear play clothes but dress a little warmer. No swimsuits though and no bare shoulders please! See you tomorrow!

The Scary Man – A lesson in Adjectives

The Scary Man – A lesson in Adjectives

t was a wacky day in the wonderful, exciting and interesting Grade 2/3 class. The curious children were gently sharing descriptive, clever, and mysterious words for our lesson on adjectives. We used the very cool website, PicLits to describe the pictures in descriptive ways. We then added them to our blog which you cansee by clicking on the pictures below. The students were very enthusiastic and excited about learning adjectives and can’t wait to use them in their stories.

Funny Cat Video!

Funny Cat Video!

I wish I had thought of this. I think Gaston would be a great singer!

We are doing well here at home. We are very tired but very happy to be at home. Liam doesn’t seem to understand right now that sleep is a good thing and that 2:00 in the morning is not a good time to party but other than that, he is doing well. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayer.

Some fun for you today!

Some fun for you today!

Today was a busy day with lots of things happening in every corner. For Language Arts, we started looking at middles of stories and how important to have a story where the middle was easy to follow, events are in order, that it makes sense, and only focuses on the important information. We read two books today as examples. The first book was called “The Doghouse”. It is a very simple story about some animals who have to retrieve their ball from the inside of a doghouse but it is very good at showing organization of events and how one event leads to the other. The other book we read was called “The Great Paper Caper” by Oliver Jeffers; on e of my favorite childrens authors.

I thought I would add a couple of fun things for you today. The first item is some games you can play at the dinner table. Simply print the circles out just like you do for your spelling test, cut the circles out and choose one of the sections to play at supper. Or you can make them into spinners and spin them to see which game you get!

Dinner Games

Finally, here is another video starring one of my favorite cats. Enjoy!

A Video and a Game!

A Video and a Game!

Well, it’s the weekend. I don’t know about you but that first week back fairly flew by!! Anyway, it was a great week back and we got lots done. Next week will see the end of the science building unit so the students will be starting a brand new Science unit. We also have lots of other great things planned. Thanks for all your kind words and support!

Here is a video I found. For Art students have been learning basic drawing techniques using a great resource called Art Attack. The students learn to draw neat little pictures using perspective, shading and other techniques. The gentleman who created the series had a T.V show a long time ago and I was able to find them on YouTube. They are quite old but lots of fun!

Here is a new game for you for the weekend!

Gymnastics Friday and A Fun Game!

Gymnastics Friday and A Fun Game!

Kids_Gymnastic_ApparatusStarting this Friday, the students will be going on a series of field-trips to the Chilliwack Gymnastics club. We will be leaving at 12:45 for a 1:00 start and arriving back at the school at 2:15 on each of those Fridays. For clothing, students will be wearing their regular uniforms and changing into their gym clothes at lunch recess. For the Grade 2 students, they will need to bring a change of clothing to wear. Grade 2 students can bring a t-shirt and a pair of shorts they can use for gymnastics. Sweats are not ideal as they get warm too quickly. Jeans will also not work as they are not stretchy enough. If you have questions please come and talk to me.

I found a neat site a long time ago that has great games on it that you can use on your blog. However, I could not figure out how to get them on the blog properly. Yesterday, however, I figured it out. Enjoy the fun game. I will add more as the year goes.
