Science Today!

Today was a very exciting day in Science. Students have been learning different ways to build safe and stable structures. Today we were focusing on a project that my Uncle Richard had sent us. His friend was building a fancy house and wanted to construct this really fancy porch with stone decorations but wanted to make sure that the columns he used would be able to hold the weight. He gave us three choices: triangular beams, circular beams or rectangular beams.

To test the beams, we took each shape and piled dictionaries on top until they collapsed. Amazingly, we found that the strongest column was the circular beam because it had no corners. One of the students took some video which I am trying to get up on the blog right now. However, it is kind of a big file so it may not be up until the morning.

Ah well, keep checking back! Never a dull moment in grade 3!!!
