Hello Again!

Hello Again!

Well, it’s been a busy time on the blog this past weekend though you wouldn’t know it from visiting the site. My sincere apologies for the site being down. The Edublogs people have been having lots of issues lately with their equipment and they finally decided to transfer all their stuff over to new computers and systems . To do this they had to shut everything down. Anyway, we are back up and running, with lots of information to pass on to you.

This week there were no spelling tests or memory verses for the students as it was a short week. Look for those to start back up next week. Also, look for the start of our “Home Reading” program very soon/1

In Math we are working on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Students will be practicing those times tables and will be expected to have them memorized. They will have a test on those facts when we are done. I will let you know when the test will be as we get closer to it.

Last weekend I got a chance to see Hilary Hahn play with the VSO. I was telling the students how stunning the performance was. Ms. Hahn was absolutely magnificent and the concert was very enjoyable. Last week, our music of the week were recordings featuring her playing. We also got a chance to see some videos of her playing so the children were very familiar with her and seemed to enjoy her music. I have included a couple videos of her below:

In Science we talked about a fair test in terms of doing experiments and emphasized the idea that when we experiments we need to make sure that it is a fair test and that all the materials and equipment were the same for everybody so that the results would be standardized and fair for everyone. We can only change one thing in an experiment in order to gain relevant and reliable results when comparing the students results. I also stated that it was very important that we do fair tests before we actually build structures because otherwise something catastrophic could happen as in the case of the video below:

Please remember that Thursday and Friday of this week are Professional Development Days for teachers and as such there will be no school for students. Also Monday is the Thanksgiving hoiday, so there will be no school on the Monday as well for students.
