We are a class from British Columbia, Canada. We are a class of 19 very curious and excited students that enjoy a wide range of activities (although gym always seems to come out on top!). We are interested in technology and how we can use it in the classroom to connect with our families and other people around the world.

Christmas Concert Memorization

Christmas Concert Memorization

Well, we had a wonderful party today! The students certainly have earned it. They a have been working very hard on their school work and their have been some tough things lately. They have buckled down and gotten their work done.

With the Christmas concert coming up quickly, students have some pieces that they are working on. One of them is a song that they are singing with all the students in the elementary. You can click on the play button to hear it and sing along:

Shout IP

We are also working on a Christmas poem. It needs to be memorized so that we can say it as a class with using paper to read off of. If you would help your child with the words, that would be wonderful. Thanks!

Celebrate this Christmas

The Birth of God’s Holy Son

Give praise and thanks

For all that God has done

The miracles at this time

Are all too often hard to see

All of our time spent

Buying presents for under the tree

Don’t forget the reason

Behind this glorious day

Was a babe born in a manger

On that blessed Christmas Day

His life was laid down for us

Christ, he gave us his all

To suffer our sins for us.

Just to give you a head’s up as well, so you can begin preparing and assembling pieces, the students will be dressing up as the Wise Men bringing gifts to the baby Jesus. Students will need to dress up in a king like manner. The children will also need to have crowns made.

If you have any questions, please give me a shout!

A Video, News and Spelling For Week of Nov. 28

A Video, News and Spelling For Week of Nov. 28

Just a reminder that this Friday is a Half Day of school with students being dismissed at 12:15.

It is also Pajama Day. Students are encouraged to wear their favorite appropriate pajamas.

On Wednesday, students will be having their Science test in the morning. They should have brought home a study guide. If you have not seen it, you can find one on the previous blog post or pick another one up from me.

On Wednesday afternoon, students have earned enough stars to have a class party. We will be having the class party on Wednesday afternoon. If you would like to send something for a snack for the class, that would be appreciated. However there is no obligation to provide snacks as I will provide the majority of the snacks for the students.

Here is the spelling for the week:

Science Test and Food Drive!

Science Test and Food Drive!

No. We’re not having a food drive for the Science Test!

However, I wanted to give all of you a heads up about the Science test coming up next week. Students will be doing their Science test on structures and buildings on this coming Wednesday. Students have been given a study guide to take home and look through. If you do not see it, let me know and I will send home another copy or email it to you.

Building and Structures Test Study Guide

Our food drive is off to a great start. However, we are always looking for more food. Don’t worry, I won’t eat it! The donations that come in are always well received by the food bank and we know what an important time of year it is to donate food as the needy struggle particularly at this time of year. We are looking for lots of different kinds of food items. However, this year they are asking that the dried noodle soups not be donated as they tend to rip and get crushed easily.

Let’s help those who need and bring that food in!!!!

To Infinity and Beyond!!!

To Infinity and Beyond!!!

We had a fantastic fieldtrip on Friday. The trip was perfect and we even got home early! The kids were great and we learned lots of things in preparation for our space unit later on in the year. I saw the students taking lots of pictures. Thank you for allowing them to take their cameras with them. I would love to have a copy of any digital prints you have from the fieldtrip. You can either send them to me by email or bring them on a disc. That would be wonderful. That way we have a record of the wonderful things we have done as a class.

One of the neat things at the Planetarium was the model of a space astronaut which you could stand behind and get your picture taken . However, wearing an astronaut suit is never quite that easy. Take a look at the video below . . .

See what I mean!

Don’t forget Spelling Test and Memory Verse tomorrow!!!!

Skyscrapers Galore!

Skyscrapers Galore!

I found some really cool videos about skyscrapers today that I thought I would share with you. The first video shows a skyscraper being built in two days. It’s amazing. The next video shows the history of buildings and skyscrapers from ancient times to now. Finally, the last videos show the construction of a skyscraper in Spain. Some neat stuff! See if you can see any of the ideas we have talked about in our unit. Think about how these buildings have been made to be safe and stable.

Field Trip Friday!

Field Trip Friday!

Just some further details about the fieldtrip planned for Friday! We are looking forward to an amazing day!

We are still looking for parents to join us if you are interested in coming. Please contact me if you are interested in coming. There will be room on the bus for everyone.

We will be wearing our usual uniforms to the Planetarium.

Students are allowed and encouraged to bring digital cameras and I would love to get a copy of any images to put on the blog. Students are also allowed to bring things with them on the bus as it is such a long journey. However, we are not allowing electronic games.

You may also want to pack an extra snack for the bus trip both ways. They will need a packed lunch as there will be nothing to purchase there.

Our New Home Reading Program!

Our New Home Reading Program!

Well hello, my wonderful students and parents!

This week, we started the first part of our new home reading program. We spent a little time in class this week going over it and your wonderfully brilliant child may already of shared the news with you.

Here is how it works:

Step 1: Spend some time reading at home. Reading can happen in the morning before school, after school, after supper, or just before bed. Try to find a consistent time though, to make it easier to encourage you to read.

Step 2: Write the amount of time down in your planner. Each month has a calendar page. On the calendar day, write down how long you read for and get your parents or other adult to sign it.

Step 3: Bring your planner to school to be stamped and checked.

It’s that easy. I also told the kids that I understand that their lives are busy and that they may not be able to read every single night. That’s fine. However, I would recommend that students read 105 mins during the entire week (that includes the weekends)!

Stay tuned as we bring in the second part of our home reading program: Pockettales!

Full Dress Tomorrow and Remembrance Day!

Full Dress Tomorrow and Remembrance Day!

Just a quick note inviting all of you to our Remembrance Day Assembly tomorrow. We will be starting at 11:00 in the Gym. It is also Full Dress tomorrow.

Here are a couple videos I found to begin helping to think about the importance of the day.
