Beyond The Desk

Tomorrow is our last full day at school and we have lots planned. In the morning, students will be cleaning out the room. As you may or may not know, the portables are being completely renovated with new floors, paint colours, a feature wall, etc. So we are going to be doing our annual clean-up with additional twist. Should be lots of fun. To be honest, students end up loving the morning clean-up. In the afternoon, we will be doing our year-end party with a movie and snacks. Students did end up earning their last star. I am asking students to bring snacks tomorrow.

On Friday, we will be having the year-end assembly. We will be handing out trophies for citizenship and academics and viewing a short presentation from each class. After the assembly, students will be released to their class to pick up their report cards and will be dismissed from their shortly after.

The grade 4 group did great yesterday!  Our fun activities included building a wall tent (the students did on their own as a team), as well as learning about the canoe and portaging.  The students had a chance to practice portaging in a relay, carrying and rolling barrels, and working as a team and doing a bit of cooperative “skiing”!  We enjoyed a snack of dried cranberries, bannock and jerky which the students devoured after all their hard work.  Finally we closed with a story, “Jimmy Goes Home”, about a young Sto Lo boy who was traveling with his family from the Interior of British Columbia to Fort Langley to deliver furs to the Hudson Bay Company trading post.  We began the unit reading this story and I hope that after our studies the students were able to paint a much richer picture in their mind of the challenges and richness of this time in Canadian history.

A big thanks to Mrs. Krahn for helping out on Thursday afternoon!  The extra set of hands and eyes was very appreciated.

Tomorrow is the annual Fun Day and we have lots of things planned. I just wanted to send out a reminder to students that they can wear casual clothes tomorrow with their shirts matching the colour of their team. Students were told their team colours earlier in the week.

Also, just a reminder that tomorrow is a half day with students dismissed at 12:00.

We had an incredibly busy week last week….And it’s finally over. Thank you to everyone who sent cookies and came out to the Art Gala. It was a wonderful evening and I hope you enjoyed a chance to see some of the art work your children worked so hard at creating over the year! It was a wonderful evening and an excellent start to an annual event we hope to continue.

We have lots of events happening in the next few weeks before school end’s. You should have received permission forms for two events: The wave pool and Cultis Lake. Here are some other events:

• June 10 – Wave Pool Grades 4-6
• June 13 – Half Day School/Grades 4-6 Fun Day
• June 16 – Cultis Lake Trip Grades 4-6
• June 18 – Half Day
• June 20 – Last Day of School Assembly and Early Dismissal. Students are dismissed directly after assembly.

The intermediates are also looking for boxes. Over the summer, there will be some renovations happening in the portables and we are looking for boxes to pack and store books and other classroom supplies in while the renovations are happening. If you have some boxes or know where we can get some, please let me know as we will probably need quite a few.
