All The Busy Things

All The Busy Things

What an exciting end to the second week of school. Students played a math game called Quadice, explored maps of Canada, played with a mysterious substance to investigate it’s properties, learned about parts of speech and so much more! It was a good week …. but it’s not over yet!!!

Students have now received their planners. They will also be getting the ruler placeholders to add to them tomorrow. We will be writing items in the planners almost every day including our bible verses once we get those going in the next couple of weeks. It’s important that you check the planner each day. Please sign the planner to show that you have seen them and have your child bring them back each day.

Tomorrow is Individual photos day. At some point, we will be taking the class down to do individual photos. Students should wear their regular uniforms tomorrow – and not their Knights day items. We will also be exploring Chromebooks for the first time tomorrow, always an exciting moment for students. We will be doing lots of fun educational activities through our chromebooks.

Some other things that are coming up include our Terry Fox run happening next Friday. During gym, students will be running laps to commemorate Terry Fox’s legacy. We are asking students to bring a toonie to school in support if they can. Students do not have to though.

On Sept. 30, we will be holding our Orange Shirt Day elementary wide to create awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of Indian Residential Schools through Orange Shirt Day activities, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. Students will be able to wear casual clothes along with an orange shirt. The shirt does not need to be completely orange if students do not have one. As long as the shirt has some orange on it, the shirt is fine to wear. Students may also wear their regular uniforms on that day.

On another note, as fall ebbs its way towards winter, we are expecting inclement weather to become more common. As we are trying to follow Government recommendations to have students outside as much as possible, we will be heading outside even if it rains. Please make sure that if the weather calls for rain, your child comes to school with proper rain gear and an umbrella as students will still be heading outside. If the rain turns into a torrential downpour, students will stay inside for recess. Torrential downpours will also affect our after school pick-ups. In the case of a torrential downpour (or extreme cold), students will be led outside by their teachers but then released to go to their parents or other adult picking up their child. Teachers will not have students lineup outside as we will be expecting parents to pick students up as quickly as possible so students are not standing outside in the pouring rain. With torrential rains, we are not as concerned with parents or students from different cohorts hanging out after school and mixing together as much as we are on other days. If it is a torrential downpour, please expect your child to be released as soon as they are brought outside.
