Reminder About Monday and Great Science Video

Reminder About Monday and Great Science Video

There are a couple of things I wanted to remind you of for Monday.

  1. Monday is Black Monday. Students are allowed to wear a black shirt as long as it is mostly black. The school is following the same guidelines as the Red Shirt Day we had a while back. Small logos are fine as well as jeans or pants other than uniform pants. If they don’t have a shirt that is mostly black than they need to wear their uniforms.

  2. Photo Order forms – Order forms for the photos need to be back by Monday as well. Please make sure they come in by the end of Monday.

Here is a great science video I saw at the teacher’s conference last week. I thought it was just great and showed off some great science concepts. Plus it was quite funny.

Full of Turkey Tuesday

Full of Turkey Tuesday

I don’t know about you but I am full of turkey. I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving with lots of turkey (without the feathers!!).

Here is the spelling list for this weekspelling-l-4:

Students also got a memory verse today:

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7

I also sent home a class picture order form. Those order forms need to be back by the October 20th!

Have a great evening!

A Great Day!

A Great Day!

It was a fantastic day today! The students earned another party which we will be having tomorrow afternoon. If you would like to help by supplying some kind of treat, that would be wonderful! Students will now have to earn double the amount of stars to earn their next party but I know they will be able to do it as they have been really improving as the year has gone!!!!!

We are working very hard on our Social Studies Voicethreads. Don’t know what a voicethread is? Check out the blog next week to find out!!!!

One of the students in the class, J.A. made a fantastic PicLit today which I wanted to share with you.

A reminder that next week is a short week with staff going to Pacific Academy for workshops and Thanksgiving Monday following that.

Students also have a spelling test tomorrow.

Students do not have a Memory Verse tomorrow as I, with my failing memory, forgot to get one printed out. They will have memory verse next week.

Mondays are Cool (If You’re On Mars)!

Mondays are Cool (If You’re On Mars)!

Well, we were back at it this week with lots of exciting things happening. Today we started looking at converting our outlines into paragraphs and the students were very excited to see the difference between what they started with and the paragraph we ended up with. The second paragraph was much more interesting with more details and interesting words being used. We also talked a great deal about how scientists developed their Mars Rover using the same ideas and procedures as we did when we looked at Oobleck. The students were amazed to discover that they had been doing the very same things that scientists did when they went to build the Mars rover. We watched some cool videos on the Mars Rover development and what happened when it went to Mars. We did a lot of talking about all the thinks scientists had to consider without even really knowing what the surface of Mars was like. Here is one of the videos that we watched.

Reminder: Class pictures tomorrow! Please have your children come dressed in full dress uniforms!!!!

How are you today?

How are you today?

helloA short assembly and more work on -ly words rounded out another busy day in class. We handed out some student of the month awards. We then came back and try out our skills at using -ly words in an actual paragraph. While it was slow going at first, students quickly got into it and really began to write amazingly wonderful sentences. Tomorrow, we will write a paragraph together as a class and have students add in -ly words afterwards.

We also finished off the science presentations this afternoon. As the week goes, I will be adding pictures of the buildings with some audio clips of the students answering questions about their buildings.

All in all , it was a busy day today. Don’t forget . . . Gymnastics tomorrow! Bring warm clothes to wear over your gym stuff!
