A Couple of Fun Things For You!

A Couple of Fun Things For You!

I thought I would start the week off with a couple of fun things for you! A puzzle and a video. The video is a real thing that happened in one of the world’s largest subways. It must have been pretty cool and everyone, especially the passengers, were very surprised! Lots of fun! Don’t you wish you had been there? I also embedded a winterish game for you to enjoy!

Late . . . Late . . .

Late . . . Late . . .

Yes, well . . . Apparently, my attempts to try and be more consistent in writing these posts has come to naught. However, I am here with this weeks spelling words, memory verse and various other things. Here is this weeks spelling list: Spelling 0-2

Here is the link for the Spelling City list:

Our memory verse for this week is very easy. It comes from Psalms and the many of the students already were very familiar with it. However, it is definately a favorite as many students chose it to include in the list of memory verses we collected at the beginning of the year.

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Last week’s Science Challenge brought in some fantastic results. We have them hanging from the ceiling if you would like to come in and see them some time. I also created an animoto where you can see them all.

I have also included a new game in the links to the left. The games is called “Stars Over Half Moon Bay”. I am not sure you can call it a game though. Basically, you must select stars and drag them below the horizon. These stars can then be used to create constellations. That’s about it. Not quite as sophisticated as Dyson but it fits very nicely into our Space unit. Students have been learning all about constellations; how to find them and some neat facts about them. However, their final constellation is going to be one that they make up. They create their own constellation, draw it out and create neat facts about how their constellation came to be. Should be interesting.

Interesting Friday!

Interesting Friday!

I had a great day today. The teachers had a great time discussing technology and our vision for the future. We got to participate a little in worship but mostly just had some great conversations about why technology is so important as a way to be relevant to this next generation. Speaking of this next generation, I found this great video. It is mostly American based but speaks some truths for all of us.

If you haven’t read through the comments yet, one of our students in Holland right now sent us a little note. She is there for her Opa’s funeral. Please add her in your prayers as her and her family deals with this loss and as she begins to head home.

One of our other students created a piclit for the class. You can see it below.

Finally, just for fun, I found this funny video. I thought the kids might enjoy it.

Maybe a few to many milkbones, eh?

If you haven’t checked out multiplication.com yet check it out. Lots of great resources. I have heard a couple of the students have already checked out the multiplication game.

A Couple of Neat Sites

A Couple of Neat Sites

I was highlighting a couple of neat sites today for the kids. One was a really fun site from an american zoo. It allows you to create a “wild animal” in your likeness. The other site is a site to help learn the mulitplication tables but also includes a free game you can download to learn the multiplication tables.

The first site, “Build Your Wild Self” was created by the New York Zoos and Aquariums group. In this site you can build a representation of yourself, then add body parts from other animals. Once you are done you can then learn about the different types of animals you have used. You can then print it out, send it to someone or put it as your desktop. You can see my example here.

The other site, “Multiplication.com” has lots of great resources and activities for learning your multiplication tables. There are games, downloads and activities to use with your children. The best part is that there is a free game which you can get to from the site or by clicking here. Once you scroll to the bottom, you will see that there is a sign-up where you will need to put your name and email. The reason they ask for your email is so that they can send you the link to download it. If you like you can use our class email which is mrhclass-at-gmail.com (using the at sign instead of the word) and our password which I will not type here but has something to do with Mr.H’s evil twin brother! You will then get an email with the link which you will have to click. The download will start. Once that is done, you will need to install the program and then play!

Have fun and have a great weekend!!!
