Pajama Day Tomorrow and Other Items

Tomorrow is Pajama day at Highroad Academy!

On April 11, we will be celebrating the coming spring by….. wearing pajamas!! That’s right! Wear your warm snugglies on Tuesday and let’s drive the cold rain away!

Students are allowed to wear their pajamas or other lounging wear tomorrow but should also have something warm like a dressing gown in case of chills. Pajamas should be appropriate with no bellies showing or anything else that might be considered inappropriate. You can bring a teddy or such and slippers to wear in the class.

If students do not wish to participate, that is completely fine and should then just wear their uniforms as if it is a normal day.

Here is your Spelling for the Week. The spelling test and memory verse will be due on the following Tuesday due to the short weeks:

The memory verse is from Hebrews 4:14

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

Reminders, Spelling and Class Photos

Though I am away in Richmond working on items for the Ministry of Education, I have not forgotten all of you!

Class Photos: Please don’t forget that tomorrow is class photos. Students are required to wear full dress uniforms tomorrow. Please make sure that they have their cardigans to wear for the photos.

Gym Uniforms: Quite a few students have been forgetting their gym uniforms lately. Please have a conversation with your child and make sure that they have all the items they need at school. Part of the requirement for gym is to be properly attired and prepared for gym class each day. If students are taking home uniforms to wash, they need to make sure they have them back at school form gym on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The memory verse is a little easier this week:

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:13

Energy and Other Announcements

Just a couple of quick announcements for the week:

  1. Knight’s Day tomorrow – students are allowed to wear Highroad apparel with causal clothes. If your child does not have any highroad apparel, they are to wear their normal uniform.
  2. Early Dismissal Friday – Due to a funeral happening at the church on Friday at 3:30, we will be dismissing early to accommodate the anticipated traffic. Students will be dismissed at 2:30.

We have been studying energy as one of our Science units and for the past couple of days we have been focusing on roller coasters and how energy works to make a roller coaster run. Today, I showed the students a fun video that I thought I would share with you. This is a real estate agent in the Netherlands (I think?) who showed a home to prospective buyers with a very interesting twist.

Guedelon Castle

This morning, I was speaking to the students about one of the highlights of my trip to France, which we had visited over spring break. Guedelon Castle is a site in France where they are building a full scale medieval castle from scratch using the same methods and tools used in the medieval days. No modern chainsaws, Home Depots, or anything. Only tools the medieval builders would have used. It was an amazing visit and site to witness. I have included a couple of videos for you to view to see how it works and what is happening even as you read this. They are still in the middle of building it right now.

The memory verse for the week is a long one, so I would suggest getting started right away!

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Pancake Breakfast

As we rush our way towards Spring Break, the Intermediate Dept. thought it would be nice to celebrate by having a pancake breakfast for the intermediate students on Friday morning.

We thought this might provide a nice opportunity for students to mingle and spend time together as a department. Starting at 8:30, we will serve pancakes until about 9:20. Intermediate students are welcome to come to Mr. Hancock’s or Mrs. Goosen’s class, get some pancakes and syrup and enjoy some time together.

If you have some time and would be willing to help out with cooking up some pancakes, please let me know as extra help would be appreciated!

Jump Rope For Heart

Tomorrow is Jump Rope for Heart and the students will be jump roping, getting their heart pumping and having lots of fun! Students should remember to bring their envelopes tomorrow even if they did not raise any money. The envelopes can be reused. It is still full dress uniforms tomorrow as students will change before going to the gym. If you want to check out the action, students will be jump roping from 2:05 – 2:35 tomorrow.
