Spelling and Some Announcements

Spelling and Some Announcements

It’s a busy month up ahead with a couple of short weeks, which will make this month fly by! Spring break will be here before we even know it.

Our habitats are still doing well. While I did not see them today (I’ve been away today and last Friday as I had some dental surgery done), we have had only 2 fish die which is pretty remarkable seeing as the fish were not fed by us. The habitat took care of everything and was completely self-contained. One surprise came when we added the pillbugs. We didn’t think that they would eat our alfalfa! We are coming to the end of our Habitats unit and will be starting our next unit in the next couple of weeks. Students will be having a test on habitats and will be bringing home a study guide this week.

Some of the other events happening this month that are coming up:

  • Math Mayhem: Math Mayhem has become an annual event at Highroad with the High School hosting an evening of math games, math activities and prizes. This year, Math Mayhem is also inviting Kindergarten students to join them. Math Mayhem is on Feb 16, 6:30 – 8:00.
  • Jump Rope for Heart: Another annual event is coming at the end of the month (Feb. 26). Ms. Stark is still looking for Parent Volunteers to help out as the event will not be able to run with parent volunteers. Please contact myself or Ms. Stark if you are able to help out with the event. The event raises money for a good cause, the kids get some great prizes and the school gets money towards new equipment for the school.
  • Love Guatemala Day:  February 15 is Love Guatemala Day; a fundraiser for our missions teams who will be heading out during Spring Break. Elementary students can pay to wear their casual play clothes and the cost is $2.00.  We will also have a hot lunch offered on this day as well.  All proceeds go to the Guatemala Mission Team. Hot lunch order forms should be coming out tomorrow.
  • Valentine’s Day: As the intermediates will be heading out to the ski hills on Feb.12, the intermediate department is not planning anything for Valentine’s day. However, if students would like to bring in Valentine’s cards on Feb. 11, they are welcome to do so as long as every student giving out cards as a card for every student in the class.
  • Ski Trip: Speaking of ski trip, our students will be heading out for the hills early Friday morning (Feb.12).

Here is the spelling for the week. Students will be doing their spelling test on the Tuesday following Family Day.
