News for the Week

News for the Week

Thanks to all of you who came out to the Art Gala last Thursday. It was a wonderful event showcasing the wonderful talent we have in the intermediate department. The addition of the talent show was a huge success and we will definitely continue with that aspect next year!

It’s going to be another busy week starting with the Spring Sing tomorrow night. Here is some further information on the event:

Students should arrive in their classroom no later than 6:40. The concert begins at 7:00, and there will be cake after the concert. The students should stay with their teachers in their pre-assigned seats until the end of the concert (unless they are in kindergarten and their parents would like to take them home early). Students may wear jeans or coloured pants; t-shirts will be provided.

Here is the spelling list for the week:

Fieldtrip Tomorrow and Other Notes

Fieldtrip Tomorrow and Other Notes

I hope everyone had a great long weekend. We were in Seattle enjoying the Science Museum and the Zoo and had a fabulous time. Luckily the border lineups were long but moved very quickly.

I just wanted to remind everyone of the fieldtrip tomorrow with the early start of 8:15. We will hopefully not be back too late. I am anticipating being back sometime around 4. I will try to call the school to update them on our progress on the way back. Students will also need to bring a packed lunch. They can bring something to do on the bus but no electronics, please.

Also this week will be the second annual Art Gala with the addition of our Talent Show. Here is a note from Mrs. Causton, who is helping Ms. Warden out with the preparation of food items.

  • Each student in Mrs.Goosen’s/Mrs.Derksen’s class please bring in one dozen cookies each.
  • Each student in Mrs. Couse’s class please bring in a plate of squares or brownie dessert.
  • Each female student in Ms. Warden’s class please bring in ONE can of frozen lemonade (large) & ONE jug of cranraspberry juice and the male students to each bring in ONE 2 litres of sprite & ONE large tin of pineapple juice.

I understand that many of us are very busy, store bought treats are more than welcome.

As you prepare/purchase your goodies, please keep in mind those students with nut allergies, thank you.

As well, please clearly label your containers/lids with your name & teacher’s name so that we can make sure they get returned!

Lastly, we are hoping to have the items delivered to the kitchen on the morning of May 21st at student drop off time to allow us to plate and prepare for the evening. Thank you for all of your support & encouragement as the students prepare for an evening of the arts!

It’s Not Exactly A One Man Band

I saw this today and, while it’s an old video, I was just amazed by the creativity. I love this band and the cool ways they create music, rhythm and sound. Take a look:

I have had these videos on the blog before but thought I would put them all in one place since we are talking about the band anyway:

Notes for the Week

Notes for the Week

I hope everyone had a great Star Wars Day yesterday! As this week is a short week, there will be no spelling list or memory verse this week.

1) Science Challenge: Just a reminder that the second Science Challenge is due on Friday!

2) Superhero Day

Are you ready for our Superhero Day on Wednesday, May 13th? On that day students are invited to come to school dressed as a Superhero. Use your creativity and imagination! You may want to tweak your appearance to give just a hint of the super powers that you possess. On the other hand you may have a whole wardrobe of Superhero outfits and paraphernalia that you would like to display to the world. In other words, you can dress up as your favorite superhero or create one from scratch. Use your creativity and imagination! Please leave weapons at home, even if they are a part of your costume. However you want to do it we look forward to seeing you, full of learning power, on Wednesday!

3) Art Gala:

Mark your calendars! On Thursday, May 21st, Highroad Academy is holding the Second Annual Art Gala. Families and friends are all welcome to come out and see some great pieces of art created by the Grades 4-6. The Art Gala will be held in the Chapel from 6:30-8:00. The Church Cafe will also be open, so come on out and see some great art. A new addition for this year’s Art Gala, will be a talent show with Grades 4-6 students displaying some of their wonderful talents. Please join us for a wonderful evening with the Arts!

It’s May the Fourth and you know what that means! It’s Star Wars day! (Get it? May the fourth be with you?).

Even though none of you are at school, I have not forgotten you and, in honour of the day and the cool factor, I have put a bunch of my favorite Star Wars videos on the blog today! Have a great day!
