Jump Rope for Heart Tomorrow

It’s going to be a great Friday with the Jump Rope for Heart day happening tomorrow. Students will be heading down to the gym tomorrow to take part in lots of different activities that are guaranteed to get your heart pumping!

Just a reminder to please have you child bring back their envelopes even if they did not collect any money. We would like to collect them all by the end of the day tomorrow.

The memory verse for this week is:

They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.

I Peter3:11

Last week, our music of the week was the soundtrack to the movie, “The Power of One”. I haven’t seen the movie for a long time, but the music is something that I come back to again and again. There is something about the power of an African Choir and the rhythms and sounds they create that is something I just love especially after being in Africa. I remember one night as we were sitting outside eating at the hotel, the hotel employees came out and and broke into an impromptu set of songs that were unaccompanied yet incredibly powerful. It was an amazing evening under the stars listening to these wonderful voices singing about their past and singing about their history as a people. The music from the movie is not only part folk songs but also includes music by Hans Zimmer who also, incidentally wrote the music for The Lion King.

Here are some fun videos, just to start our week with a smile!

Spelling, Memory Verse and Lunch Swap Feedback

Spelling, Memory Verse and Lunch Swap Feedback

First of all, the ski trip was fantastic. We all had a fabulous time, the weather was great and the students were all wonderful! Thanks to everyone for their help and participation and a special thank you to Mrs. Couse for all her hard work organizing the day. If you see her this week, make sure to give her a big thank you! Now, it’s back to the grindstone! 🙂

Here is the spelling list for the week:

Our memory verse this week is:

For, whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.
1 Peter 3:10

One last call for feedback concerning the lunch swap experiment we held a couple weeks ago. If you would like to provide feedback, please comment on the blog or send a note with your child’s planner. Ms. Evans and I will be discussing the swap on Tuesday of this week.

Ski Trip Final Details!

Ski Trip Final Details!

The count down is on regarding the ski trip. The Intermediate ski trip is this Friday, Feb 13th.

On Friday, if your child is riding the bus, please have them to the school lobby by 6:30, as the bus is scheduled to leave at 6:45 am (sharp). We will not be able to delay for late comers. For the afternoon pickup, please be at the school at 4:30 pm. Please do not wait for a call from your child as this will delay the teachers having to wait as well.

Students should bring plenty of food and juice as we’ll be gone for about 10 hours. Please remember to bring your ski pass (if you have one), sleds & a helmet if you aren’t renting, plenty of warm clothes (a change of dry clothes is a good idea for the trip home), and something to do on the bus (no electronics please). We’d appreciate your prayers for safety, and God’s protection on our day.

PS. Parents, if you are driving to the ski hill, you do not need to meet us at the school first. In fact we encourage you to arrive at the ski hill ahead of the bus as the rental office is willing to process your rentals before the bus arrives. Just let them know that you are part of the Highroad Intermediate field trip and make sure they check your name off of the registration list. Tell them your ID number and that will help them find your registration.

Your child’s teacher will be giving out the ID numbers to help facilitate finding your names on the registration list. When the bus arrives, students will line up by ID number order and lift tickets will be handed out.

We’re looking forward to a great day at Manning! See you there!

Valentines and Lunch Time Feedback

Valentines and Lunch Time Feedback

I hope everybody enjoyed their long weekend. We have another slightly short week ahead with Friday being skiing at Manning Park.

Just a couple of things about the week ahead:

  1. Valentines Colour Day: Thursday is Valentine Colour Day. Students are allowed to wear casual with something red, pink or white.
  2. Valentine’s cards: Students can bring valentine’s for other students as long as they have a card for each student in the class. I will hand out a class list of names tomorrow.

Finally, we are interested as to your thoughts about our Lunch Time Experiment. Did you like it? Why or why not? Did your child like it? Why or why not? Is there anything you would change about it if we were to continue with lunch time swap? Please let us know by adding a comment to this post! We will take all the feedback and look at them before making any decision.
