Lunch Time Changes

Lunch Time Changes

In the Elementary, we have been noticing that it has become more and more challenging to get the students to eat their lunches and have them finish their lunches before having to go outside. By the time we get to lunch time, the students just want to be social and go outside to play. Many of them are not interested in eating or find that they can not eat everything in the time given, especially if they have lunches needing to be heated.

We have decided to do an experiment with flipping our lunch schedule. Some of the schools in our district have had success with playing first and eating second. The students get to go outside and run, shout and play first and then come inside (when they starving and ready to sit) and eat their lunches second.

Our lunchtime experiment will take place from February 2-5. We will then meet together as a department to discuss whether or not this is something that we might like to continue with for next year. Your input is valuable so please feel free to let me know how your students are feeling about the switch up.

  1. My girls often have a large lunch so they can have something to snack on, on the long drive home after school.
